This pandemic year has propelled thinking about positive mental health and wellbeing to the forefront for the majority of the population. But what does this concept mean when applied to our faith and spiritual life? Using the model “Five Ways to Wellbeing” (New Economics Foundation, 2008) as our framework, we shall be thinking about wellbeing and faith. As we start to leave “lockdown” we will hopefully find some strategies to help us start to “live life to full” once again.

The Church, says Pope Francis, “needs prophets.... it needs all of us to be prophets, not critics who don’t approve of anything, but one who opens wide the doors of hope”. Prophetic voices challenge us to ‘wake up’, to trust and keep faith, to be courageous in the proclamation of God’s word. But the many complex issues of our time – social, economic, cultural, political and personal - offer no easy answers or quick solutions.
