Life to the Full
“I have come so that you may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10: 10)
What have I learnt during the pandemic?
I’m sick of my having my office in my front room; I can’t really find a way of wearing my mask without my glasses steaming up; and, oh yes, things are a bit rubbish really. Just when you think you can tell yourself it’s all coming to an end, your realise it isn’t… not yet.
Does this feel like “life to the full”?
Although, in recent years, thinking about positive mental health and wellbeing has become an interest for many in the disciplines of psychology and occupational health, the last two years have really propelled this to front and centre for the majority of the population. But what does this concept mean when applied to our faith and spiritual life? Surely Jesus came for us to have “life to the full” and so everything should be fine for the Christian. Shouldn’t it?
Using the model “Five Ways to Wellbeing” (New Economics Foundation, 2008) as our framework, we shall be thinking about wellbeing and faith. We will be engaging with this in both reflective and practical ways, and, as we continue on the bumpy road towards a freer existence, we will hopefully find some strategies to help us start to live “life to full” once again.
The young people will be exploring the same issues through their own activities.
