Summer All-Age Week: 'Wake up! Revive what remains for it is fading fast' Rev.3:2 [POSTPONED]

  • St Cassians Centre Wallingtons Road Hungerford, England, RG17 9SP United Kingdom (map)

Prophetic Voices in the Call to Reform

The Church, says Pope Francis, “needs prophets.... it needs all of us to be prophets, not critics who don’t approve of anything, but one who opens wide the doors of hope”.

Prophetic voices challenge us to ‘wake up’ - they speak out with courage and conviction on the crucial issues of our time.

But the many complex issues of our time – social, economic, cultural, political and personal - offer no easy answers or quick solutions. Differing voices clamour to be heard. How is it possible for the Church to manage the tension between being the rock of Truth and at the same time respond with an open and generous heart to the many and diverse challenges of the modern world?

Whose are the prophetic voices who will truly wake us up and help the Church ‘revive what remains’? Who will help us discern what the Spirit is saying to the church today?

During this all-age week we will listen to a range of prophetic voices: of women and men in politics, media and education; of young people; and of parishioners.

Through thought-provoking presentations, supportive discussions, quiet reflection, and creative and inclusive liturgies, we can all play our part as prophets of hope; listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking to the Church today. A variety of different small inclusive Christian communities will share their experience of living out the Gospel in their every day lives

Speakers will include:

  • Leading international scholar Dr Ally Kateusz who will share with us her ground-breaking research (recently presented to Pope Francis), of women priests in the early Christian church and how evidence has been handled by church authorities over time.

  • Leading figures from the Green Christian Movement who will address the vital topics of ecology and climate change and challenge us to make radical responses. We will aim to include a range of influential prophetic voices on this crucial topic which will be high on the political agenda for 2020.

  • A speaker from Christian Climate Action, who are linked to Extinction Rebellion.
