Mindful Walking Weekend in Wales (18+)

  • Nicholaston House Penmaen South Gower, Swansea SA3 2HL (map)

Walking, or pilgrimage is an important spiritual exercise in all faith traditions. Jesus himself walked a lot! We deepen our spiritual journey while connecting with special places and with God’s creation.

During this weekend we will use walking in the landscape of the south Gower coast as a tool to become more deeply aware of ourselves, of our place on the earth and of God. When we are not out walking, there will be time and space for meditation, mindfulness and scriptural explorations.

The weekend will be co-led by Gabriela Todd and Henriette Howarth. Henriette is an Anglican priest, originally from the Netherlands, but now based in Yorkshire. She is a spiritual director and meditation teacher. She coordinates prayer and spirituality for the Anglican Diocese of Leeds. She lived and worked in India for 5 years where she discovered that meditation is very much part of the Christian tradition.

The programme is a mixture of walks, teaching, conversations and silent meditation. We will start with a welcome and introductions on Friday 4pm, and walking down through the woods to the beach and dunes in the evening. Saturday will be an easy - moderate level of walking for a distance of 6 - 7 miles. Sunday morning will again be gentle and we will finish with lunch. Our walks will include 4 churches on the Gower Pilgrims Path.

There is also a small chapel just outside Nicholaston House. The walks will be guided and will include times of rest for meditation and mindfulness.
