Alton Castle Autumn Weekend
30 October – 2 November
Autumn All-Age Long Weekend
Come out of the dark and the damp, away from the screams of the thrill-seekers at the theme park next-door, and gather together in our castle retreat for a story.
As we mark the three festivals of remembering - Halloween, All Saints and All Souls we will look at the stories our faith is built on - the tall-tales of the saints that inspire us and the myths that shape our identity.
We will consider why stories, more than bare facts, motivate us to action and bind us together.
Fact and Fiction, Story and History, Myths and Legends, Truth and Post-truth. We will explore all of it in the usual creative CPW way!
About the venue:
Alton Castle is a remarkable Grade II listed neo-Gothic building designed by A.W. Pugin and constructed in 1847. It stands within the evocative ruins of a medieval castle dating back to approximately 1176, and is designated as a Grade I listed scheduled ancient monument. It is now a youth retreat centre owned by the Archdiocese of Birmingham and has been used by CPW since 2004. The majority of rooms are large, with a handful of single/smaller rooms.
If you are good friends with (or related to) another family, and would be prepared to share (for a modest discount), please let us know.
There are very few single rooms at Alton Castle. If you book on as a single person and don’t want to share a room this will mean an extra cost for CPW so we will charge an extra £50 to partially off-set this.
This is a self-catered event and will require support from participants with such things as setting/clearing tables, washing up, chopping vegetables etc. This will be on a rota basis so not every day.
