Faith, Politics and Power - The Catholic Effect in Public Life
Speaker: Mike Kane MP – Shadow Minister for Schools
Our first Autumn Lecture will be delivered by Mike Kane, Shadow Minister for Education and MP for Wythenshawe and Sale East. The lecture will be held at the newly-built building of Maria Fidelis School, Drummond Crescent, Camden, London, and will be followed by a drinks reception.
Mike Kane will speak on ‘Faith, Politics and Power - The Catholic Effect in Public Life’. Janet Emmanuel of Citizens UK will facilitate a post-Lecture Q&A.
We will also show the exhibition 'Sink or Swim? Catholicism in Sixties Britain", which celebrates the work of John Ryan, whose cartoons cast a satirical eye on British Catholicism in the 1960s. Curator Dr Alana Harris will introduce the exhibition and answer questions.
CPW is committed to providing good quality educational opportunities to adult Christians, with the aim of building a responsible, informed Church. We hope that our new free-to-attend annual Autumn Lecture will further enrich our educational offer to all.
We intend our Autumn speakers to reflect the diversity of our contemporary faith communities whilst serving our core educational purpose.

About the venue:
Maria Fidelis is a Roman Catholic school situated in Camden, London. The school recently secured funding for a major new building which is due for completion in December 2018. We are excited to host our first autumn lecture at this fantastic new building which will serve the local faith community and nurture and support young people in their faith. The school is underpinned by its mission - growing together through Christ with courage, confidence and dignity - a mission that CPW wholeheartedly supports.
