CPW Walking Weekend Report
As fairly hardened CPW members neither Greg nor I had really given this weekend much thought before we set off for the Gower Peninsula.
In fact, during the days preceding the event we considered pulling out as other commitments were gathering speed.
However, the two days spent exploring the local area within such a diverse group of amazing people, plus the inspirational input of our leaders, proved to be one of the most memorable of our entire CPW experiences.
Walking, talking, reflecting, and praying were the key features of the weekend with the subtle but clear direction of both Henrietta and Gabriela. As a coordinator of prayer and spirituality for an Anglican Diocese as well as a meditation teacher, Henriette was very experienced at leading groups of adults. However, it was clear that she was adapting to the needs of our group and the inevitable progressive thinking of participants from a wide range or religious traditions. The spirit of CPW was strong and although many did not know anything about the organization and its history, a feeling of acceptance and respect, plus a desire to learn more about the religious experiences of others, pervaded the group.
The Gower Peninsula provided a glorious setting aided by beautiful sunshine and blue skies. Walking and talking (with a few quieter moments) created a wonderful setting for listening and sharing. Gabriela had planned the beautiful walks although she was teased quite a bit about her map reading and measurement of distance!! However, all her planning was ‘tuned in’ to the meditative, prayerful theme for the weekend but like Henriette there were times when she had to just let us talk!
The centre itself (Nicholaston House) was a great choice. Greg and I were so fortunate to have a room overlooking the bay and fronted by fields of sheep. The catering and hospitality were outstanding, and the thoughtful, caring staff found nothing to be too much trouble.
I think I can confidently speak for all those who participated in the weekend that we hope to see Henriette and Gabriela hosting another weekend such as this in the near future
Mary Hewitson.
