CPW Prayers and Resources to Support You During This Time

Although we are not able to meet in person, many members have been in contact to offer prayers, table liturgies and links to further resources which will help us stay connected to one another in shared prayer and celebration during the Coronavirus outbreak. We will update these resources as they are received. If you have any prayers, activities, or resources that you would like us to include then please get in touch.

Table Liturgy

This table liturgy encourages us to pause and break bread together like the disciples on the road to Emmaus.

 *****

ALL     In the name of God, Source of all Being, Eternal Word and Holy Spirit.  AMEN

1.     Blessed are you almighty God who gives us our daily bread.  Blessed is your only begotten Son who continually feeds us on the word of life.  Blessed is the Holy Spirit who brings us together at this table of friendship.

ALL     Blessed be God for ever

Reader: The Road to Emmaus:  (Luke 24. 12 – 33)

A loaf is cut and shared

2.     Like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, we pause to break bread together.

3.     May our eyes be opened and in this act of sharing may we see the Risen Lord in one another

4.     May we see the Lord of life in our food, in our conversation and lives shared in common.

ALL     Amen

Prayer of Strength and Courage From Pope Francis

Pope Francis’ prayer of strength and courage reminds us of a time when ‘normality will seem an unexpected and beautiful gift’.

*****

Tonight before falling asleep think about when we will return to the street.

When we hug again, when all the shopping together will seem like a party.

Let's think about when the coffees will return to the bar, the small talk, the photos close to each other.

We think about when it will all be a memory but normality will seem an unexpected and beautiful gift.

We will love everything that has so far seemed futile to us.

Every second will be precious.

Swims at the sea, the sun until late, sunsets, toasts, laughter.

We will go back to laughing together.

Strength and courage.

A Meditation to Use Outdoors

These prayers are offered as a short meditation which you might consider using outdoors. The prayers are based on Pope Francis' encyclical on the environment, Laudato Si.

*****

As we meet together let us recall the words of Pope Francis as we ask for your help and guidance, O Lord, in this difficult time.......

“All powerful God you are present in the whole universe
and in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.
Pour out upon us the power of your love,
that we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with peace, that we may live
as brothers and sisters, harming no one.
O God of the poor,
help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth,
so precious in your eyes.
Bring healing to our lives,
that we may protect the world and not prey on it,
that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction.
Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain
at the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,
to be filled with awe and contemplation,
to recognise that we are profoundly united with every creature
as we journey towards your infinite light.
We thank you for being with us each day.
Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle
for justice love and peace”

LORD
Help me to live this day quietly, easily
To lean on your great strength trustfully, restfully
To wait for the unfolding of your will patiently, serenely
To meet others peacefully, joyfully
To face tomorrow confidently, courageously

We pray also, O Lord that you extend your help to all those in the Medical profession
who labour to fight this infection that they may be given the strength and courage to continue their work.

Remembering also how Jesus taught us to pray we say :-

Our Father…
