The Sultan and the Saint - Private Viewing in Cardiff on Friday 1st Feb 2019

Stephen and Mary Ashton, CPW members for many years, run programmes of spiritual depth from a beautiful retreat centre at Llansor Mill, South Wales. Several other CPW members are involved with Llansor Mill, including CPW treasurer Mike Willcox, who serves as a trustee.

One of Llansor Mill’s recent initiatives has been to facilitate Muslim-Christian dialogue along with their collaborators the Welsh Muslim Cultural Foundation (WMCF). As part of this dialogue, there will be an exclusive private screening of ‘The Sultan and The Saint’ at Vue cinema in Cardiff on Friday 1st February 2019 at 7pm ( for a prompt 7:15pm start).

This event is taking place in the 800th anniversary year of the little-known, ground-breaking encounter between the Christian, Saint Francis of Assisi, and the Muslim, Sultan Malik Al-Kamil: at Damietta in northern Egypt, in the midst of the horrors of the Crusades. Together, they created a framework for peaceful, positive encounter. A group of local Christians and Muslims who have been inspired by them, have jointly committed to showing this film as one outcome of the enjoyable dialogue that has taken place between the two groups over the last year.

The docu-drama, narrated by Oscar-winning actor Jeremy Irons, is an hour long. After the showing there will be a Q&A discussion, with panelists including Shaykh Ahmed Saad Al-Azhari (himself a native of northern Egypt). The panel discussion will last approximately half an hour. At the end of the discussion there will be time for audience members to continue conversations with the Christian and Muslim participants of the programme: our hope is that you, as we have been, will feel inspired to engage in a similar process of dialogue.

If you wish to book, please use the link below - no later than Monday 28 January 2019. CPW members would be very welcome. A lot of interest is expected, so please reserve your seat as soon as possible.
